When collecting my children from school I saw this pot bursting with berries, leaves and flowers and knew I had to paint it. To me it was an explosion of autumn! I wanted to fill the panel with this celebration through watercolour splashes to contrast with the control of the pen and dense textured layers. The piece evolved and changed during its creation but I felt that needed a few touches of life so I added a House Sparrow, bee, caterpillar, snail and butterfly to enhance its energy further.
